Set in the turbulent years following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the film follows Nina (Ruslana Pysanka), a charismatic woman who takes in a homeless Russian drifter claiming to be a writer. Hoping to build a new life with him, she soon discovers that the mystical lands of Poltava—where witches live alongside ordinary villagers and the dead speak to the living—gradually reveal the true nature of the man she has welcomed into her home.
